Recently, in my work as a business consultant, I was asked to give a presentation at a company offsite in the subject of “productivity and time management.”
In order to prepare for this, I polled a number of ordinary people whose work styles I admired on their individual work habits. Nobody I spoke to felt like they had enough time. It’s as if we’ve all become the proverbial “plate spinners,” those talented jugglers rushing from plate to plate in order to keep each one spinning in the air.

Based on my interviews, there were a number of themes that emerged from those who managed to successfully juggle their many labors. Here, in condensed form, I offer you these 12 time management “principles” in hopes that some of them may also be useful to you. (more…)

If you’re new to Twitter or even if you’ve been using it for years, you may wonder what all those words preceded by the # sign are. They’re hashtags. And you should consider using them if you want to potentially get more out of your experience.

Problem is, many people don’t use hashtags correctly. Here’s a primer on hashtags, plus some recommendations for using them effectively for your business. (more…)

When building a website, business owners often focus so much on keywords and other on-page search engine optimization factors that they overlook the importance of backlinks.

Some industry experts estimate backlinks may account for as much as 80 percent of the weight that search engine ranking algorithms give websites. When it comes to (more…)

So many people are asking for support but no one is willing to support in return.
Usually I don’t see people asking anymore, it’s more like demanding for support.
You know what’s funny about that is — those same people gain more “haters”
than “supporters” then have the nerve to get upset about the result.
Based on what I see in general, people are lazy. Usually it only takes 3-4 minutes
out of a 24 hour day for someone but people are so caught up in themselves
to make the time for another. (more…)

As Facebook continues to enhance its fan page options, businesses are not only struggling to keep up with the changes, but they also are still trying to figure out how to brand and market their pages. As you are meeting new people online, having conversations, posting, building exposure and handling new opportunities daily via social media, you are going to have to draw the line at some point with the back and forth, also known as time wasters.

If someone is continually asking for your advice, free product, tips and so forth, respond no more than three times, spending a maximum of three minutes each time, before you ask for the business. If the contact does not respond or decides to not do business with you, there is no need to offer additional expert advice and/or tips and guidance for free. People will respect you if (more…)

What’s the most important thing in advertising / promoting? I’ve been asked this question more than a few times when it comes to marketing, particularly by music artist. Advertising costs money, usually a lot of it, the last thing you want is to donate your money vs getting a return on your advertising. I used to have a lot of different answers, all depending on who was asking and why…these days I have just one answer. The Most Important thing in advertising/promoting is…

No, the single most important thing is… (more…)

As a person growing up in today’s world, we are subject to an incredible amount of social conditioning, starting from the day when we are born by our parents, then by school, by the government, by the media, by our boss.

All the time images are created of how one should live, of what is beautiful, of what is socially acceptable, what will give happiness.

We are told to follow a procedure of things ranging from school, to getting a degree, to getting a good job, to having a family and working until 65 when we can retire and try to enjoy life until we die. (more…)

Whenever I talk to a artist who’s about to sign with a major label, I always end up thinking of them in a particular way. I imagine a trench, about four feet wide and five feet deep, maybe sixty yards long, filled with runny, decaying shit. I imagine these people, some of them good friends, some of them barely acquaintances, at one end of this trench. Then I imagine the faceless industry at the other end holding a fountain pen and a contract just waiting. Nobody can see what’s printed on the contract, because it’s too far away. The industry shouts to everybody that the first one to swim the trench gets to sign the contract. Everybody dives in the trench and they struggle and fight to get (more…)
